You have a chance to build up your military - land, air, and sea - and slowly conquer neighboring countries one-by-one. Why? Because Germany offers excellent technology trees, a strong industrial setup, and is situated perfectly among a slew of weak nations ripe for the taking. When I first started playing Hearts of Iron IV, the more experienced players in my life immediately told me to start a campaign as Germany. Here are a few of the best Hearts of Iron IV nations for beginners! Germany

But for most, learning the Hearts of Iron IV nations takes time, patience, and plenty of failure!Īs a beginner to Hearts of Iron IV, chances are you’re a little confused as to which nation to begin with, right? It’s okay.

Your goal is to lead your nation politically, economically, and militarily through the war. The player - that’s you - takes control of a nation a few years before the onset of World War II. I've got a few thousand hours under my belt.Hearts of Iron IV is, arguably, one of Paradox Interactive’s best grand strategy games. You've got naval management, a massive empire to defend, strategic bombing, the whole nine yards. Once you're confident, I find the most rewarding playthrough is with the UK. If you're Germany you get to control the tempo of world events, and if you're the US you get a massive industrial base that will remain untouched during the war, and you'll be a powerhouse by the time the war arrives. The only real advice I'd give is that to start with either Germany or the United States. I'd invest 3-4 hours into YouTube tutorials (I wholeheartedly recommend Bitter steel, Feedbackgaming and Taureor). I've completely lost interest in RTS, and the only thing I've really been able to throw myself into since HOI4 has been Metro Exodus. But now I've learner how to play, I find it difficult to drag myself to other games now.

I agree with Fitnessguru2377, for the longest time I was intimidated by how complex it was.
